Weather Plans

In the event of severe weather, the University will announce the weather plan on the University's homepage; the Bicenntennial website and social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram). In addition to these online resources, individuals may call (434) 924-6476 for information regarding the weather plans during the Bicentennial Launch Weekend.

 

A Historical Perspective of the 1817 Ceremony talk

In the case of severe weather, A Historical Perspective of the 1817 Ceremony talk will canceled. Announcements will be made on morning of October 6th. 

 

Tribute to the Laying of the Cornerstone

In the case of inclement or severe weather, Tribute to the Laying of the Cornerstone will be moved from the Lawn to Old Cabell Hall. 

If the decision is made to move the ceremony indoors, announcements will be made no later than 48hrs prior. 

 

Memorial to Enslaved Laborers Exhibit

In the case of severe weather, Memorial to Enslaved Laborers exhibit will be canceled. Announcements will be made on morning of October 6th.  

 

Bicentennial Launch Celebration

In the case of severe weather, the BIcentennial Launch Celebation will be moved from the Lawn to the John Paul Jones Arena. Doors will open 6pm.

If the decision is made to move the ceremony indoors, announcements will be made no later than 48hrs prior. 

 

 

For Friday there are three possible weather plans that may be followed:

Fair Weather:

Weather conditions are ideal. Little to no rain. The Tribute to the Laying of the Cornerstone and the Bicentennial Launch Celebration will be held on the Lawn.

Severe Weather:

If thunder, lightning, high winds, or other dangerous conditions are present, The Tribute to the Laying of the Cornerstone will be held at Old Cabell and the Bicentennial Launch Celebration will be held at John Paul Jones Arena. A Historical Perspective of the 1817 Ceremony talk and the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers Exhibit will be canceled.
