Parking & Shuttle Service

Parking and Shuttle Service:

Due to the University classes remaining in session and employees completing a work day, on October 6, parking areas near Central Grounds will be limited to guests attending Bicentennial events. Guests attending Bicentennial events are welcome to park in the locations listed below. Guests are encouraged to carpool and consider alternatives to parking on Grounds such as walking, biking or utilizing public transportation. Please allow ample time to arrive at your destination, as heavily congested traffic is expected.

Please note: McCormick Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from University Avenue to the bridge over Emmet Street on October 6 beginning at 4pm.


Starting at 2PM, first-come, first served parking is available at the following locations:

John Paul Jones Arena

Address: 295 Massie Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903 Map

Fee: Complimentary parking will be available in both the JPJA surface lot and the parking garage.

Distance from the Lawn: Approximately a 25-minute walk

Accessible Parking: A designated area in this lot will be available for individuals in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. In order to park in this area, drivers are required to have a valid state-issued Disabled Parking Placard or license plate.

Bicentennial Shuttle Bus Service: Special Bicentennial shuttle buses will load near the main entrance of the arena (the loading zone will be depicted by signage).

Hours of Operation:  2 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

Post-event Pick up Location:  The University Chapel

Addition Shuttles: The University Transit Service (UTS) Northline is available from this location every 20 minutes until 2:30 a.m. on October 7.

North Line: All University Transit Service (UTS) bus routes will be in operation. The North Line is a great option in addition to event shuttles, and will transport guests to the same destination for the event.

Hours of Operation: 2p.m. on Oct. 6 – 12:30a.m. on Oct. 7

Drop-off Location: McCormick Road in front of the Harrison Institute/Small Special Collections Library. Return shuttles will pick up at the Chapel bus stop on McCormick Road.

 Accessibility Shuttle: All shuttle buses will be wheelchair accessible.


Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage

Address: 123 Emmet Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903 Map

Fee: Complimentary

Distance from the Lawn: Approximately a 15-minute walk (with a moderate incline)

University Transit Service (UTS): Although it is best to walk from this location, UTS Northline serves the Emmet/Ivy Garage every 20 minutes.


Central Grounds Parking Garage

*Please Note: This location is expected to fill early.

Address: 400 Emmet Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903 Map

Fee: $2 per hour prior to 1 p.m. After 1 p.m., $10 per vehicle per entrance (cash only)

Distance from the Lawn: Less than a 10-minute walk (with a moderate incline)

Accessible Parking: With a DMV issued license plate or placard, disability parking is available in the Central Grounds Garage on a first come, first serve basis. The accessible route to the Lawn is through Newcomb Hall.

University Transit Service (UTS): UTS service to Central Grounds is not available from this location. 


Parking areas located off Whitehead Road and George Welsh Way around Scott Stadium including lots labeled E3, T4, Red, and S6:

Accessible Parking: Please see John Paul Jones Arena for accessible parking options.

University Transit Service (UTS): Although it is best to walk from this location, UTS Inner U-Loop serves the stadium area every 20 minutes.

·      South Lawn (lot K2) – 1540 Jefferson Park Avenue

·      Bavaro Hall (lot R6) – 417 Emmet Street

·      Physics Building (lots R2) – 382 McCormick Road

·      Ruffner Hall (Lot R1) – 10 Bonnycastle Drive


Public Transit Options: The Charlottesville Area Transit Service operates two routes that link downtown and the 29 corridor to Central Grounds. Both routes operate until 11:30PM. The Charlottesville Free Trolley provides service every 15 minutes between downtown and Central Grounds. CAT Route 7 provides service every 20 minutes from downtown to Central Grounds and the Route 29 Corridor. More information can be found at the following link:


Please do not park in the Lee Street or 11th Street Garages to attend bicentennial launch weekend events.  These garages are reserved for UVA Hospital patient and visitor parking.
